Program Overview

Program Description:
The MSc in Computational Bio- and Physical Geography is one of the four MSc tracks in Earth Sciences offered by the Universiteit van Amsterdam. It focuses on the quantitative analysis of landforms and processes. The programme is founded on the philosophy that concurrent use of data and models is a prerequisite for posing and testing theories concerning the functioning of geo-ecosystems: What can we learn from measurements, from modeling and from the combination of the two. Courses offered by CBPG include: Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Environmetrics, and Modeling Geo-ecological Systems. All four MSc tracks in Earth Sciences have their own dedicated course programme, using modern techniques combined with fieldwork. However, all four tracks start with the combined course Natural Resource Management of Geo-Ecosystems, including a field trip to Tenerife. In addition, it is possible to follow a combination of courses from the various tracks if desired. The MSc in Computational Bio- and Physical Geography is coordinated by the research Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED). For more information please contact Programme Manager Prof.dr. Willem Bouten at MSc-Computational-Geography@science.uva.nl
