The campus of USIU-Africa is in a growing area of metropolitan Nairobi called Kasarani, which is seven miles outside of the city center. Nairobi is the commercial, intellectual, cultural, and recreational hub of East Africa. Just south of the equator, tropical Nairobi basks in the sun almost all year long and is known as the "Green City in the Sun".
