Program Description:

Our Master's Program in School Leadership is designed for full-time working educators who want to build the skillset and broad perspective to efficiently—and compassionately—lead at all levels of school administration.

We offer two tracks of study in School Building or District Leadership, each includes a two-semester internship that can be fulfilled by work experience. Students aspiring to work at the school building level must complete 33 creditsfor the Student Building Leader (SBL) master's or 36 credits for the School District Leader (SDL) master's. All courses are available online. Whatever your focus, we will tailor your coursework to prepare you for the challenges of educational leadership and to help you meet your specific professional goals.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll study pedagogical theory as well as the most current best practices for teaching, learning, and leadership in a multicultural environment. We emphasize effective supervision and efficient utilization of school and district resources, and embrace the latest educational technologies as a means of clear communication and organization.

By the end of the program, you’ll master the use of data to analyze a school’s or district’s educational condition and be able to allocate available resources for maximum impact. You’ll think outside the box to identify and secure new resources, and you will be as committed as we are to fostering a safe, healthy environment for all school community members to learn and flourish.

Where It Will Lead

The School Leadership program leads to New York State certification as a School District Leader or School Building Leader, if you meet the following certification requirements and pass the State licensure exam.

Certification requirements for a School District Leader are a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education; 60 semester hours of graduate study including a Master's Degree in School District Leadership; a supervised internship; and three years of satisfactory teaching experience and/or administrative and/or supervisory and/or pupil personnel service experience in the schools (N-12).

Certification requirements for a School Building Leader are a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education; a Master's Degree in School Building Leadership; a supervised internship; and three years of satisfactory teaching experience and/or administrative and/or supervisory and/or pupil personnel service experience in the schools (N-12).
