Program Overview

Program Description:
This interdisciplinary program leads to the Master of Science degree with a major in sports health. The program, which involves sports medicine, is designed to provide an academic foundation for the coach, trainer, physical therapist, physician, exercise physiologist, nutritionist, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation specialist, and others associated with conducting sport or rehabilitation programs. Both medical and non-medical personnel will be trained to facilitate safe participation, prescribe appropriate treatment, and foster more efficient rehabilitation of injuries and diseases associated with sport participation. In addition, this training meets the non-medical personnel needs associated with fitness and health care programs in business, industry, and government agencies. Information regarding sports health and the associated specialization in cardiac rehabilitation may be obtained by contacting the Associate Chairperson for Graduate Programs in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
