Program Description:
The M.S. degree with a major in RHIM is designed for students with either a bachelor's degree in hospitality or management work experience in food service, lodging, or travel and tourism. Special programs, providing additional coursework, are available for students who do not meet these criteria.

While the M.S. degree with a major in RHIM is generalist in nature, students may choose one of the following options:

Professional Option - The professional option is designed to prepare students for mid-level management positions in the hospitality industry. It also is appropriate for individuals who wish to change careers. The curriculum requires a total of 37 hours consisting of 28 hours of required courses, six elective hours, and a three-hour comprehensive capstone course in strategic management. Elective courses in travel and tourism, food service management and hotel management are also available.

Research Option - The research option is designed for students who plan to seek faculty positions in post secondary community colleges, to pursue a doctoral degree, or to participate in applied industry research. The curriculum requires 34 graduate hours consisting of 28 hours of graduate course work and a minimum of six hours of research, and a thesis.

The Ph.D. program at Texas Tech University is designed to provide a balance between developing strong researchers and effective educators. The program is individualized to enable students to follow their own research interests and leads to a Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) with an emphasis in hospitality management. It will be particularly appealing for people who not only want a strong background in research skills, but who also wish to develop their teaching abilities.

The faculty have a diverse range of research interests that will guide students in development and implementation of their research activities.
