Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The prestigious bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is taught entirely in English at Technion’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The Faculty is internationally recognized for its leadership in research, education, and innovation, having educated Israel’s engineering leaders holding key positions in high-tech, government and defense industries. Students are taught by senior academic staff, scientists and expert lecturers from industry, and benefit from a stimulating environment and state-of-the-art laboratories – among the most advanced of their kind in the world. The program provides students with a strong base in the engineering sciences alongside project-based laboratory and design experiences, to develop their independence, creativity and leadership in an era of incredibly rapid technological change. New developments in the fields of micro-systems, biomechanics and medical robotics pose exciting challenges for mechanical engineers as well as new opportunities for driving innovation.
Typically, mechanical engineers are suited for employment in diverse areas, including the aerospace, automotive, biomedical, chemical industry, computer, communications, nanotechnology, robotics and power-generation industries.
Mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, development and manufacturing of mechanical systems and processes to advance modern industry and emerging technologies while taking into account social, environmental and economic factors. Virtually every object in our lives has been touched by mechanical engineers, from the design of mobile phones, cars, furnaces, airplanes, sports equipment, power tools, sophisticated robots, medical devices and computers to the operation of power plants, factories, and airports. Since mechanical engineers are involved with the mechanics of motion and the transfer of energy from one form to another or one place to another, they need to acquire knowledge and experience in the fields of solid and fluid mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, energy development, control, design and manufacturing, and more, along with a combination of basic science with engineering applications. Mechanical engineering track of study at Technion includes specializations in: solid mechanics, dynamics, mechatronics, control, micro electro-mechanical systems, and robotics.
- Setting Description:
- Technion Vision: A science and technology research university, among the world’s top ten, dedicated to the creation of knowledge and the development of human capital and leadership, for the advancement of the State of Israel and all humanity. Technion–Israel Institute of Technology is a public research university in Haifa, Israel. Founded in 1912, Technion is the country’s oldest university. The institute offers degrees in science and engineering, and related fields such as architecture, medicine, industrial management and education. Although the official language of instruction at Technion is Hebrew, several undergraduate and graduate study programs and courses are taught in English through Technion International.
