Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The landscape of law enforcement is changing: On-the-job training and experience is often not enough for those who wish to ascend to leadership positions at the state and local level or want to enter or advance at federal agencies. Graduate degrees are quickly becoming a requirement for high-level service at state and local police departments, sheriff's offices, private security and investigation firms, and federal law enforcement organizations. The online MA in Criminal Justice Administration gives students a foundation of skills on which to build careers by focusing on the core competencies needed to lead law enforcement agencies. Along with courses in constitutional justice, policy analysis and advanced criminological theory, students explore vital administrative topics such as human resource management, budgeting and organizational behavior, and effective interaction with a culturally diverse workforce and community. Students choose one of two concentrations based on their professional goals. *The Police Administration concentration is targeted to those interested in advanced positions at state and local agencies. Coursework explores theories and techniques of law enforcement at the community level, including community policing, managing police organizations, and crime prevention and control. *Students in the Federal Law Enforcement specialization learn to apply criminal justice theory to criminal justice activities at the federal level. The curriculum includes classes on terrorism, search and seizure laws, and public bureaucracy. Every professor in the Saint Peter's College criminal justice program has real-world field experience in law enforcement and police administration, and their invaluable insight is passed to each student through an unmatched dedication to personal attention and service.
