Program Description:

In the addictions program you will receive academic and experiential training that will prepare you for chemical dependency counseling. You will build the advanced training and understanding in addiction and treatment required of professionals in the field of counseling individuals and groups affected by addiction.

Requirements:

•Apply for admission to the Addictions Graduate Certificate Program through the School of Graduate Studies. •Have a completed baccalaureate degree in related field. •If the bachelor's degree does not include course equivalents, students will be asked to complete the following undergraduate courses: CPSY 323/4 Theories of Counseling, CPSY 325 Helping Skills, and CPSY 327 Group Counseling. •The GRE examination is not required for graduate certificate admission consideration. •Submit a statement of intent that includes reference to addictions in your life (direct or indirectly). •Provide three recommendation forms. •Provide written verification of one year of abstinence from drugs if in recovery. •Successfully complete a personal interview with faculty from the chemical dependency training program and representatives of the chemical dependency profession. Interviews are conducted each semester.

International Requirements:

In addition to submitting an application, application fee, GRE/GMAT scores if required by program, and 3 letters of recommendation, international students must also submit scores from a language admission exam and financial documentation showing availability of funds to cover the cost of graduate study. Qualifying language admission exams and required scores are as follows: TOEFL: 550 on the paper exam or 79 on the iBT with no subscore under 17; Michigan Placement Test: 80; IELTS: 6.5.
