Program Overview

Program Description:
The Doctor of Nursing Practice track prepares nurses with the necessary skills and knowledge to assume the role of primary health care provider in a variety of settings. SU Nursing offers a BSN-to-DNP track and a Post-Master’s DNP. BSN-to-DNP graduates will be prepared to practice as an FNP or PMHNP, and will be eligible to sit for the FNP or PMHNP certification exam. The BSN-to-DNP degree requirement is 78 semester hours for FNP and PMHNP, with a required grade point average of 3.0 or better. Students may earn no more than of 2 Cs in core courses. The clinical practicum requirement for this track is approximately 1000 clock hours. The Post-master’s student may complete the program in 20 months part-time. DNP programs are currently offered with the following concentrations: Family Nurse Pracitioner, Nurse-Midwifery and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Here are a few other key points about the program: -Cohorts are established in August. -The application deadline for priority consideration is May 1. -All classroom courses are on Wednesday and Thursday. -Clinical placement is arranged by faculty and will be scheduled at the convenience of the facility hosting the student.
