Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Clinical Psychology Master's Program at SFSU has been running continually since 1952. The Clinical Psychology Graduate program provides two years of full-time training, leading to the Master of Science degree in Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Psychology. This program is designed to qualify students to provide mental health services in diverse settings, including community mental health centers, schools, hospitals, private practice, and managed care environments (to name a few). Our program emphasizes theoretical and applied training from a psychodynamic, family systems and community psychology perspective. The SFSU Clinical Master's Program provides the academic preparations and pre-master's supervised hours for the State of California Marriage and Family Therapy (M.F.T.) license. The Board of Behavioral Sciences also requires post-master's hours for licensure as an M.F.T., and most students complete this roughly within two years after graduation. Although research opportunities exist with faculty members, this is not the focus of the SFSU Clinical Psychology Master's Program.
