Program Overview
- Program Description:
- MSc Economics: The MSc in Economics is a traditional programme providing a firm background in advanced economic theory and econometric analysis. All students start with a compulsory pre-sessional Mathematics refresher course. The students then take three core courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics as well as a course in Research Methods, which provides generic tools that will be applied when writing the dissertation. Students can also choose to take optional courses, which include Public Economics, Political Economy, Financial Economics and Industrial Economics. MSc Financial & Industrial Economics: The MSc in Financial & Industrial Economics combines two related areas of Economics. Students seeking careers in management or in the financial sector are provided with a solid technical background in finance, economic analysis, quantitative methods and research methods. The innovative feature of this programme is that it recognises the importance of understanding the industrial sector in analysing the behaviour of financial markets. Research opportunities: There are a number of research groupings in the Department: economic theory; fi nancial and industrial economics; labour economics; experimental economics; public economics; and political economy. We welcome applications from highly-qualifi ed research students in these and other areas.
