At least one of the other taught courses should be in ancient history, as should the dissertation. Courses available cover an impressive range of historical subjects, from ancient Greece and Rome to Egypt, as well as offering skills in language acquisition and epigraphy. Teaching takes place mainly in central London. MA Classics: Federal degree of the University of London, with courses taught at Royal Holloway, UCL, King’s College London and the Institute of Classical Studies. Students take three taught courses and a dissertation, all equally weighted. The dissertation should normally be in the field of classical language, literature or thought, or the classical tradition. Courses available offer a wide range of classical skills and disciplines, from language learning to detailed text study; palaeography and papyrology; historical topics; philosophy; and classical art and archaeology. Teaching takes place mainly in central London. The same range of courses is available as for MA Classics. Teaching takes place mainly in central London. Research Opportunities: The Department has particular strengths in ancient rhetoric; the application of literary theory to classical literature; urban history and archaeology; and maritime archaeology.
