- Ross University School of Medicine has placed more graduates into first year residency positions in 2002 than any other school in the world, including U.S. medical schools. Founded in 1978, the School's mission is to prepare highly dedicated students to become effective, successful physicians in the United States. Since its inception, Ross University has graduated over 4,000 students. The first four semesters of Basic Science courses for the School of Medicine are taught on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean in a 16-month trimester schedule, and the 5th semester class is taught in Miami, Florida at the Greater Miami Health Education Training Center. Medical students then complete their clinical rotations at one of 41 affiliated hospitals in the U.S. and, after passing all prerequisite examinations, are licensed to practice medicine in the United States.
