Program Overview

Program Description:

The Master of Arts in Literacy Education is designed to provide licensed teachers with the necessary skills to thrive as reading specialists. The program is taught by expert literacy professors dedicated to delivering high-quality instruction to help teachers develop competencies in literary instruction, assessment and leadership. A hybrid learning model allows for students to complete the program in just 18 months. 

The program leads to certification as a Pre-K-12 reading specialist/consultant in the state of Rhode Island and in member states of the Interstate Certification Compact (ICC). With a strong emphasis on social justice, civil discourse, and global citizenship, the program is designed in a part-time cohort format with hybrid course delivery for busy classroom teachers. Recent graduates may also participate in the program if they already possess teaching certification.
