Program Overview
- Program Description:
- This programme is tailored to the needs of young choreographers who feel that they would benefit from the opportunity to develop their craft within an institution, which is highly regarded as a location for postgraduate research and has a rapidly rising profile in the field of practice as research. Why study Dance Choreography here? The MFA is a highly regarded ‘terminal’ qualification in America but the programme offered here at Roehampton is the first of its kind in the UK. General programme information This two year full time MFA Dance programme is designed to promote the practice of choreography as a studio-based discipline. Our Master of Fine Arts programme in Dance is designed to integrate practical, creative and academic studies in a distinctive way. It enables students to develop their skills in performance, choreography, teaching and writing about dance as a practitioner. Graduate studies are designed to reflect the choreographic and performance interests of individual candidates as well as provide access to interdisciplinary study. Technique classes are offered in Ballet, Cunningham, Graham, Limon and Release, in order that students can pursue new or familiar areas of practice. Students will devise a range of self-motivated choreographic projects alongside regular submission and discussion of compositional studies. The MFA Dance is structured to integrate theory and practice in order that graduate students from all programmes can engage in critical debate. Working with a mentor, each student will select a combination of modules that together constitute a full Master of Fine Arts degree programme.
