- Program Description:
- This programme provides knowledge of the growing aquaculture industry from a multi-disciplinary approach with emphasis on sustainable use of aquatic and marine resources for commercial exploitation for food and products. The scientific rationale for improving aquatic animal health, production and reducing environmental impact, as well as socio-economic factors will be addressed. Aquaculture is now recognised as the fastest growth sector of agribusiness on a global scale with an estimated annual increase in production amounting to over 10% with nearly 50% of total seafood production derived from various culture systems (FAO 2006).
