Program Description:

The programme enables students to develop capacities for critical enquiry and reflective approaches to defining human needs, knowledge of human behaviour, current social policy & law relating to social work, and knowledge of social work theories and methods of assessment and intervention. The University is accredited by the General Social Care Council to award the professional qualification. The programme requires that you learn in a variety of different settings and different ways. You will have to use a wide range of skills and techniques to allow you to do this. In order to begin this process, and to help you to form and establish supportive networks, there is an induction period at the start of the programme. Teaching and seminars are usually arranged for two or sometimes three full days each week, with the rest of the week allocated for preparatory directed self-learning. Most modules follow a similar format, especially during the first year of the programme. The learning in each module usually involves a combination of preparatory directed self-learning (often using materials available on the student portal), taught sessions and seminars. The student portal provides access to the teaching and learning material and it also has the facility for communication between you and your fellow students and you and the module leader and teachers. This will allow you to work collaboratively and to have your questions/queries addressed. Specific details about each module are provided in separate module outlines which you will be given at the start of each module. This programme is not part of the Integrated Masters Scheme. Requirements:

Minimum 2:2 honours degree. GSCE mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent). At least 12 months’ experience of working in a social-care setting – this can be in a voluntary capacity.

International Requirements:

Applicants with overseas qualifications can check their compatibility with the UK equivalent through NARIC, who provide an advisory service. Written English language tests are now required for all applicants that attend an interview. The minimum IELTS score for acceptable English proficiency for entry is normally 6.5.
