Program Overview

Program Description:
OSU’s MSETM is a rigorous degree program designed specifically for experienced engineers and scientists who are interested in accelerating their management careers. The curriculum combines academic coursework with the latest business practices and can be tailored to meet an individual student’s needs. Managing today’s global organizations requires a complex set of knowledge and skills. Effective planning, selection, implementation and management of technology, and the teams involved, is essential to the success of any business in today’s time-critical, global markets. OSU-MSETM students learn to apply proven evaluation concepts and implementation strategies to fast moving, technical management decisions that make the difference in both career and business success. The MSETM program specifically addresses the real needs identified by industry leaders. The MSETM degree curriculum is flexible; permitting you to build a strong degree that directly addresses your needs and prepares you for the future. The degree consists of 32 credit hours. Courses are divided into four categories: Required, Core, Supplemental and Technical Electives. The Required courses include; ETM 5111, typically taken during the first semester of the program and the Capstone series, ETM 5XX1 and ETM 5133 which ideally are taken during the last two semesters of the program. The remaining 27 credit hours are made up of Core, Supplemental and Technical Elective courses (see insert or our website for complete list of approved courses). A minimum of 14 credits must be earned from the list of Core courses, representing priority areas of the program. After meeting the Core requirements, the remaining hours may be chosen from the Core or Supplemental set and may also include up to six hours of technical electives. Technical Electives consist of courses in areas where additional depth is desired, such as a technical specialty or other area of career need. Up to nine hours of coursework may be considered for transfer into the program if taken during an allowable time frame for graduate credit from an accredited institution in which a “B” or better is earned. This can include coursework taken at another university while enrolled in the MSETM program. In addition, OSU’s Graduate College requirements common to all programs must be met, for example, at least 21 credit hours contributing to the degree must be at the 5XXX level or above. Oklahoma State University's Certificate in Engineering and Technology Management provides graduate-level technical management knowledge to professional engineers and scientists. In today's competitive work environment technical expertise may not be enough to prepare professionals for leadership roles. This program equips individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to successfully manage people, projects, and processes while keeping in mind overall corporate strategy. Completion of the 12-credit hour certificate program will provide skills enhancement, exposure to current concepts and issues, and a foundation on which to build a technical management career.
