Program Description:
The programme may be used as an entry point for those seeking a career in cultural management, or to enhance existing cultural sector skills and abilities to aid progression through to management level, providing an excellent opportunity for Continuing Professional Development. The programme aims to develop: the theory and practice-based knowledge and skills required for effective management within the cultural sector the ability to think critically, exercise independent judgement and evaluate complex information and ideas project development and management skills the ability to complete creative work to a professional standard the ability to respond to a changing cultural environment a flexible pathway for participants looking to add cultural management skills to existing professional profiles an understanding of the cultural sector as a framework which encompasses a diverse range of publicly-funded and commercial activity COURSEWORK AND ASSESSMENT The MA aims to provide participants with professional, vocationally relevant skills. The programme develops an understanding of the processes involved in managing cultural enterprises and organisations, including aspects of business planning, marketing and communication technologies. It provides an understanding of the relevance of current policy and policy-making bodies on a regional, national and international basis. A Work-based Project is undertaken within a cultural organisation of the participant's choice, which may be a current place of work or within own cultural business or practice. The subsequent Dissertation provides an opportunity to conduct independent research within the field of cultural management.
