Program Overview

Program Description:
The focus of the programme is placed on the business applications of IT. This newly acquired expertise is used when all students carry out a consultancy project with a local company, involving real business problems which students tackle in partnership with the organisation. The adoption of IT within a business necessitates not just an understanding of the technology itself but also the way in which information is used as a valuable resource for operational, tactical and strategic decision-making. BIT encompasses those aspects of new technology development which improve the way in which businesses are able to operate. More specifically, it goes beyond hardware and software by examining and assessing the ways in which IT is integrated within the business environment and the impact it subsequently has on all aspects of the organisation. The programme adopts a flexible approach to assessment. Some work will be group-based, but equally some assessment will involve the student pursuing a personal interest in a relevant area of BIT via independent research. These are supported by a mix of continuous assessment presentations, examinations and the submission of reports.
