Program Description:
The Department of Political Science offers graduate coursework in three areas of emphasis: International Relations and Comparative Politics; American Politics and Public Affairs; and Political Theory. Students and professors in our program form a community of scholars and students learn from each other in discussion-oriented seminars. These seminars provide opportunities for specialized study through research projects, and teach students quantitative and interpretive skills. This knowledge and these tools can be applied in a variety of professional contexts. PSCI-402 Research Methods in Political Science…….3 cr. Five courses in the area of emphasis, including a 400-level seminar or a thesis seminar…………………..15 cr. Three courses selected from a second area……………9 cr. Two elective courses from any area of emphasis…..6 cr. Students have two options to choose from to fulfill the master’s degree program requirements: 1. 30 credit hours of course work, a thesis for 6 credit hours, and an oral examination, or 2. 36 credit hours of course work, a written comprehensive examination, and an oral examination.
