Program Description:
This programme is designed for students whose first language is not English. It provides the opportunity both to improve social and technical English proficiency and to study technical subjects at postgraduate level. There is a worldwide demand for engineers who can undertake business assignments in English. This combination of language development and technical study, as well as the social and cultural aspects of studying at Newcastle, provides an ideal preparation for such careers.


You take a selection of taught modules (110 credits). These include language options at different levels (20 credits) in reading and writing and in listening and speaking, plus engineering modules (90 credits) including: bioengineering; design of mechanical power transmissions; thermal power and propulsive systems; dynamics and control; joining technology; continuum mechanics; methods in industrial research and development. You also complete a module in writing dissertations in science and engineering (10 credits) and an individual project (60 credits).
