Program Description:
This programme enables you to acquire high-quality interpreting skills so you may enter the interpreting profession, especially in marketable fields such as technology, commerce, international relations and journalism.

This programme concentrates on professional skills in interpreting. It is available for study using English and either Chinese or Japanese as working languages. The programme includes compulsory modules (90 credits), optional modules (30 credits) and either a dissertation or an interpreting project (60 credits).

Compulsory modules include: advanced Chinese or Japanese for translators and interpreters, or advanced English for translators and interpreters; interpreting; professional interpreting seminar; translation studies; research methods in translating and interpreting; professional issues in translating and interpreting.
Optional modules are drawn from across an extensive range of disciplines.

Assessment is by examination, practical assessments, class/seminar presentations, essays or assignments or other submitted work (including a dissertation or project), and oral examinations (consecutive interpreting panel examinations). At the end of the programme you will take a 'live panel' examination in interpreting.
