Program Overview
- Program Description:
- This exciting programme aims to provide geology and engineering graduates with the advanced conceptual understanding, detailed factual knowledge, and specialist technical skills appropriate for success in an engineering-based consultancy business. It will also help to develop your knowledge and understanding of the framework within which business opportunities are identified and pursued within the civil engineering sector.
The MSc comprises a taught component (100 credits) and a consultancy project (80 credits). Compulsory modules (80 credits) include: the construction business; geoskills and geomechanics; characteristics and baseline reporting; foundation design; slopes and walls; soil modelling and numerical methods; rock engineering; ground improvement techniques; contaminated land. An innovative feature of this programme is that technical modules (20 credits) are normally taught in one- or two-week blocks.
Through the consultancy project, you undertake a substantial individual research project, the aims of which are identified through liaison with a real-world client. The outcomes of the project are delivered in a substantial report, which is designed to meet the needs of the individual clients.
