- This programme aims to provide you with a broad range of interdisciplinary skills and knowledge needed in the bioinformatics industry and academia.This interdisciplinary programme is based in the School of Computing Science and taught jointly with the Institute of Human Genetics and the Schools of Mathematics and Statistics, Biology and Psychology, and Biomedical Sciences.You take compulsory modules (60 credits) and optional modules (40 credits), followed by a six-month individual project that may be taken within the University or with a bioinformatics or pharmaceutical company (80 credits). Compulsory modules include: bioinformatics theory; bioinformatics applications; bioinformatics programming in Java; computing for bioinformatics or fundamentals of cell and molecular biology. Optional modules enable you to tailor your degree to either a computational/numerical theme or a more biologically oriented theme.
The quality and excellence of this programme is recognised by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and there are five BBSRC studentships available for UK and EU students.
