Program Overview

Program Description:
The 27-credit graduate certificate is designed around the competencies necessary for qualification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). The program facilitates an understanding of the basics of health education in public health, and develops the concepts and skills required to carry out effective health education programs. It prepares graduates to take positions as leaders in health promotion and disease prevention programs in voluntary health agencies, hospitals and other health care organizations, schools, business and industry, health-related government agencies and community outreach organizations. The certificate may be taken independently or as part of an MPH in Behavioral Sciences and Health Promotion. Students who complete the Certificate in Health Education are eligible to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination offered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. The certificate may be combined with the MPH in Behavioral Sciences and Health Promotion.
