- Biostatisticians apply statistical methods to the design, analysis and interpretation of research studies in a variety of fields. Types of activities biostatisticians are involved in include developing and testing of new drugs, developing diagnostic and treatment techniques, epidemiologic studies, nutrition studies, health surveys, and the collection and analysis of vital statistics. The Biostatistics concentration is open to those without any previous training in statistics. However, concentration students should have a mathematical background through calculus and matrix algebra.
