Program Description:

The Department of Geography offers graduate study leading to the Master of Applied Geography degree. A minor in GIS is also available to all graduate students regardless of major. The Department of Geography emphasizes the interaction of human activities with the environment. Graduate students may specialize in a number of areas, including remote sensing, GIS, geomorphology, land use planning, biogeography, landscape ecology, or resource management.

The Geography department also houses the Spatial Applications and Research Center (SpARC.) SpARC provides a variety of services including planning and research, GIS, image processing, modeling and training. The primary clients of the lab have been government agencies.

A Masters in Applied Geography prepares students for immediate employment in such career areas as resource management, land use planning, remote sensing, and Geography Information Systems (GIS) applications. Other graduates pursue doctoral studies at prestigious universities.

International applicants submitting foreign post-secondary level transcripts are required to have their credentials evaluated by a recognized member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
