Program Overview

Program Description:
Technical Communication is practice-oriented program, emphasizing a problem-solving approach that empowers people in many disciplines to communicate more effectively and bridge the complex and isolated worlds of scientific and technical specialties. Through employment of effective communication strategies, candidates will help to make those worlds more comprehensible. Students may pursue their interest in a specific profession or an academic discipline and demonstrate that interest creatively in a state of the art format. Smaller portions of the major project may serve as components of assignments in course work. The Professional and Technical Communication Department offers a 31-credit Master of Science degree with thesis, publishable paper, or project options. Individuals from backgrounds as diverse as graphic arts, business, marketing, public relations, journalism, and management come together to enhance their communication skills. Students develop individualized study programs in consultation with their advisors. Joseph M. Schaffer “I can not say enough as to the enjoyment and experience the Masters of Science in Technical Communication Graduate program provided me. I felt connected, belonging, and purposeful relationships with the faculty, other students, and the program in general. The small class sizes, focused attention from faculty, and informal atmosphere allows a student to grow and build their own professional and academic path Overall, the program was a highlight in my life. It taught me how to become a rational thinker, in both terms of general communications and technical communications. Wouldn’t have traded it for anything.” Holli O. Hoerschelman “Montana Tech has done a lot to promote and propel me in my field of expertise. I value the contacts that I’ve made at and through Montana Tech, both within our department and in the community. I go out of my way to meet new people and get involved in committees, clubs, and activities.”
