- Program Description:
- The role of the rehabilitation counselor involves aiding consumers with physical and psychiatric disabilities through job development and placement, case management, career and lifestyle counseling, and personal and family counseling. Consumers become self-supporting and independent citizens. The Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling curriculum is focused on preparing professionals for employment in rehabilitation and mental health settings. Graduates have found employment in state and private rehabilitation offices, mental health centers, supported employment programs, Veterans Administration, community-based vocational programs, hospitals, chemical dependency programs, schools, centers of independent living, insurance companies, manufacturing firms, and other commercial and nonprofit organizations.

- Accreditation:
- The curriculum has been developed specifically to meet the stingent requirements for accreditation through CORE (Council on Rehabilitation Education). Completing all requirements of the curriculum prepares students to sit for the afore-mentioned examinations, and for professional practice.
- Requirements:
- 1. Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better in last 60 semester or 90 quarter credits. 2. Graduate GPA, if applicable: minimum of 3.0. 3. GRE scores submitted to the Graduate Studies Office. 4. Three letters of reference. For students newly graduating (within the last three years) from an accredited undergraduate program, this will include letters from the advisor, a major professor in the degree program, and a letter addressing work-related experience. For other applicants, letters addressing academic, professional and work-related experience must be included. 5. Acceptance into the program will be granted by the Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling Program Selection Committee.
