Program Overview
- Program Description:
- There's nothing more precious than saving a life. And, as a clinical perfusionist, you are given the chance to help save lives on a daily basis. The job of perfusionist is one of critical importance to a patients survival. The main function of a perfusionist is to operate the heart lung machine, which has the role of taking over the function of the heart and lungs during heart surgeries such as coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve replacement, heart transplants, lung transplants and various other procedures requiring extracorporeal circulation. As with most allied health professionals, advances in biomedical technology have broadened the scope of duties assigned to the perfusionist. This requires a perfusionist to have a greater knowledge base upon graduation, and, even more importantly, the ability to perform and/or evaluate the research being done in the advancing areas.
