- Program Description:
Elementary education focuses on the needs and interests of the individual student by providing a stimulating environment and encouraging creative, scholarly work. Opportunities for interpreting and participating in original research and experimental programs in the field are used to acquaint students with current practices and theories in elementary education. Programs can be planned with emphasis relevant for the student intending to teach, specialize, or administrate, and for those planning to continue on to doctoral studies. Studies may focus on general elementary education, early childhood education, English as a second language, the teaching of mathematics, science, social studies, or literacy and the supervision of elementary education.

- Applicants must possess Pennsylvania Instructional I Certification in elementary education, early childhood education, or special education. Applicants who have not earned certification in one of these fields must earn elementary education certification and then may satisfy early childhood certification requirements and master’s degree requirements concurrently. Applicants must have earned a 2.75 or better undergraduate cumulative average.
