- Adolescence Education is complex and challenging but essential. Mercy College’s 36-credit Master of Science Degree in Adolescence Education, Grades 7-12, will get you certified. Graduates of the Adolescence Education program may pursue teaching positions in grades 7 through 12 in the areas of English, mathematics, social studies, science, and foreign language. You’ll develop the knowledge, skills, and strategies for effective teaching in urban and suburban schools. You’ll learn to integrate practices for providing effective teaching and learning in the classroom to adolescent students. Additionally, you must complete the required core courses and additional certificate-specific courses. Students seeking an initial certificate in the Adolescence Education program must complete the School of Education comprehensive examination prior to graduation. Professional certification requires an initial certificate and three years of teaching experience.
