- Mercer University's Tift College of Education is the largest private preparer of professional educators in Georgia. In addition to a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, Tift's Educational Leadership Program offers the P-12 performance-based School Leadership track for the Ph.D in Educational Leadership degree. The vision and mission of the college is professional preparation of "Transforming Practitioners" in primary, secondary and post-secondary institutions, both public and private. The program begins two cohorts annually each Fall term; one at the Macon campus and one at the Atlanta campus. Program Goals: 1. To prepare educational leaders for Georgia's schools. 2. To meet the growing demand for highly qualified school leaders in Georgia who are consumers of research and whose practices are influenced by that research. 3. To provide leaders in higher education with a research-based and applicable skill sets to ensure successful operations of colleges and university programs. 4. To develop partnerships with public schools and agencies. The annual Fall PhD cohort will convene classes one or two weeknight evenings per week from 5pm-9:30pm, in two 8-week sessions over a 16-week semester. Coursework is taken sequentially in a prescribed class calendar, with one-time mandatory all-day Saturday Leadership Academy. Summary of Curriculum: Professional Studies in P-12 School Leadership – 24 hours Research Block – 15 hours Core (includes dissertation and internship) – 24 hours Optional: PL-7 Certification Upgrade - additional 6 hours for the Performance-Based Internship earned in two additional semesters during an academic year, extends program time to completion to a minimum of four years.

- - Bachelor’s and master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution - Minimum graduate GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale - Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score report (target score for exams taken after August 1, 2011 is 151 on the quantitative, 151 on the verbal, and 4.0 on the analytic sections; the target combined score in previous format is 1100 or better combined quantitative and verbal and 4.0 analytic).
