Program Description:

The common elements of these programs are: a. considerable stress on training in research methods (quantitative and qualitative); b. training that emphasises the use of theory in framing research questions (as opposed to the history of theory); and c. the development of skills and knowledge in substantive areas of research in which the department specializes. These include political sociology, industrial sociology, ethnicity, gender, social problems, development, and medical sociology. There are also significant opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
