- Within the Department of Education and Special Education, there are sixteen areas of concentration leading to the Master of Science degree in Education. They are Community & College Counseling; Curriculum & Instruction Specialist in Elementary & Middle School Mathematics; Curriculum & Instruction Specialist in Algebra & Middle School Mathematics; Curriculum & Instruction Specialist in Spanish; Curriculum & Instruction Specialist in Music; Curriculum & Instruction Specialist in Special Education General Curriculum; Educational Leadership; Elementary Education PreK-6 Initial Licensure, Health & Physical Education; Literacy & Culture; Spanish or ESL PreK-12 Initial Licensure; School Counseling; School Library Media; School Library Media PreK-12 Initial Licensure and Special Education General Curriculum K-12 Initial Licensure. In addition, the M.S. degree is awarded to Longwood students enrolled in the Special Education General Curriculum Liberal Studies five-year program. Four Education graduate professional endorsement only programs are offered in Educational Leadership, Literacy & Culture/Reading Specialist, School Library Media, and Special Education General Curriculum K-12. In addition, the department offers two certificate programs in Autism Spectrum Disorders and 21st Century Learning and Leadership.

- Requirements:
- Applicants must have an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale), two recommendations, official transcripts from all institutions attended, a personal essay, and a valid teaching license for some concentrations or passing Praxis I scores for initial licensure programs.
- International Requirements:
- Credential evaluation to determine equivalency with a U.S. baccalaureate degree and must also demonstrate proficiency in the English language through the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or International English Language Testing system (IELTS) if English is not the primary language spoken in the household. A minimum score of 570 (paper test) or 80 (Internet test) is required on the TOEFL or a minimum 6.5 on the IELTS for admission. All applicants are expecterd to meet all admission requirements in order to be considered as do not grant conditional admits.
