Program Overview

Program Description:
This programme is based in the Department of Government, but the teaching is interdisciplinary and carried out by Government, the International Relations Department, the Development Studies Institute and the European Institute. It brings together many of the unique resources of these departments into a leading, interdisciplinary programme on globalisation, global governance and global politics. It offers the following benefits: The opportunity to study in a large, internationally renowned set of departments in the only UK institution devoted solely to the social sciences. The opportunity to study courses from across the four politics departments of LSE. Global Politics brings together the expertise of LSE staff at the cutting edge of debates about globalisation and global politics. A good preparation for further research work or for a career in education, the public services or the private sector at national, international or global levels. We will consider applicants with good first degrees in any discipline, with a considered interest in the area covered by the MSc. Students can also apply for the Global Civil Society stream of the MSc Global Politics, which has a second core course focusing on knowledge that can enhance the strategic capacity of global civil society organisations. The Global Civil Society stream offers a good preparation for careers in non governmental organisations at national or global levels. Core courses: From Empire to Globalisation; Global Civil Society I and II (required for students on the Global Civil Society stream only). Choose options from a list including: Institutions and the Global Environment; African Development; Complex Emergencies; Globalisation and Democracy; Sovereignty, Rights and Justice; The Development and Integration of the World Economy in the 19th and 20th Centuries; many others. 10,000 word dissertation.
