Program Overview

Program Description:

The interaction between management and technology stands at the center of the management and engineering major. Students in the major receive a well-grounded and broad education in modern management techniques. Strategic design options and operational optimization tasks almost always include connections between technology, economics and management. An expanded knowledge of different types of engineering is central to the success for managing industrial enterprises. The curriculum, therefore, combines an education in management skills with an understanding of scientific methods used by engineers. Course Structure The first semester contains three modules in basics, methods and processes of engineering as well as simulation. Students choose between a specialization in either automation engineering (AE) or production engineering (PE) and attend the module photonic systems resp. production management. According to the focus chosen, the second semester offers the modules actuator engineering and sensors and intelligent systems (AE) respectively production technology and production logistics (PE). A challenging research-teaching project completes the program. Students, working as a team, will take on questions relevant to practical operations that can be understood in either disciplinary or interdisciplinary terms. The third semester contains compulsory modules in automatic control systems (AE) and strategic production networks (PE), Furthermore, the students have the possibility gain expertise in three elective modules. Up to two modules can also be chosen from an alternative Management & Entrepreneurship major. Especially the third semester is also recommended for studies abroad. The curriculum is supplemented through Management Studies courses that are open to all majors and the overarching general studies program for all Master’s students from the first to the third semester. These courses will enhance your technical expertise in management while also providing the necessary broad academic and self-critical foundations for success. During the last semester students attend the Master’s Forum while completing their theses. Ideally, the master’s thesis is developed in cooperation with an industrial company, treating a practice-oriented topic on the basis of scientific methods.
