Students may choose to specialize in one of three practice areas: Family and Children Services, Addiction/Substance Abuse Services, or Mental Health Services. Family and Children Services The Family and Children Services specialization focuses on the economic, social status and service needs of families, youth and children. Special courses of study are designed for students interested in child welfare, mental health, juvenile justice, and other areas of service to families and children. Students electing this specialization may qualify for Title IV-E stipends. Addiction/Substance Abuse Services This specialization explores the interaction of physical, psychological and social aspects, as well as clinical methods of treatment, early intervention and prevention, using the disease concept of chemical dependency. Students who pursue this specialization will be positioned to become Certified Addiction Counselors (CAC) following additional course work and supervised experience.
