Community Risk Management (SARIS) is a multi-disciplinary main field of study for education and research at Karlstad University. The Master programmes in the field started in the autumn of 2008, as developments of a previous broad Master's programme offered at Karlstad University from 2004. The study programme Societal Risk Management prepares students for professional employment as well as for research. Students learn about the limitations and possibilities of risk management and how legislation and other forms of control impact on them. Students are introduced to practical risk management as it is planned, structured and performed at different levels and in different sectors of society. The programme is designed for people who work or plan to work with risk-related issues in industry, organisations or public agencies. It is also suitable for potential researchers in the field of risk management. The content and form of instruction are based on the students' future professional roles.
