Industrial and Organizational Psychology Master's Degree

The master's degree in psychology with an emphasis in industrial and organizational psychology (MIOP) is a terminal professional degree. The curriculum emphasizes the application of concepts and behavioral science methodologies to problems facing the human resource professional today. This is a hybrid program consisting of required on-campus summer courses (two weeks each summer for program years one and two), guided research, online course work and a practicum.

The program provides students and working professionals with the opportunity to apply new human resource concepts, knowledge, skills and analytical tools to on-the-job decisions. It teaches strategies for making informed decisions based upon a thorough understanding of current issues.

Graduates will have developed and synthesized a portfolio of skills, including:

  • a rigorous analytical and quantitative foundation based on traditional behavioral science principles and applied in a problem-solving framework
  • an understanding of how to effectively utilize computer and information technologies to increase efficiency in human resource decision making
  • a refinement of verbal and written communication skills to effectively and ethically guide organizational change while interacting with diverse populations
  • an ability to develop company-specific selection, training and performance appraisal programs, which provide a competitive advantage
