Program Overview

Program Description:
The Food Science master’s degree is a competitive program offered to food industry professionals who have already obtained a bachelor’s degree and provides additional educational food industry training. The program is nationally recognized and certified by the Institute of Food Technologists. It provides graduates with opportunities to work with several food commodities, including cereal, dairy, meats/poultry, fruits, and vegetables. To complete the program, students must complete 22-24 credit hours and either a thesis involving a research project or 28 credit hours and a written master’s report. Each option totals 30 hours of graduate credit.. Kansas State University is a national leader in food science and offers three online certificates in the field. These certificates are offered through the K-State Food Science Institute which integrates the expertise of food science across many departments at K-State. The three certificate programs offered are: -Food science graduate certificate -Food science non-degree undergraduate certificate -Food safety and defense graduate certificate offered through the AG*IDEA, an affiliate of the Great Plains IDEA, a national consortium of land grant universities offering programs and courses in agriculture.
