Program Description:

As a student in our program you will form strong student-faculty connections with our nationally recognized faculty. We focus on you as an individual, with unique educational needs and potential. We are proud to be one of 593 schools of music accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Accreditation assures quality and promotes excellence and continuous improvement. Our Music Therapy program features a six-month internship at a site approved by the American Music Therapy Association. AMTA is the profession's mechanism to help establish high quality teacher preparation. At Illinois State University, we offer a wide variety of study programs within the spectrum of music including; Music Education, Performance, Collaborative Piano, Composition, Conducting, and Music Therapy. We emphasize creative thinking, performance techniques, understanding the learner and developing your skills to become an effective teacher, performer, collaborator, conductor, composer, or music therapist.

International Requirements:
An international student holding the equivalent of a U.S. baccalaureate degree from a recognized international post-secondary college or university, as determined by the Graduate School, may apply for admission. A student whose native language is not English is required to submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. The minimum TOEFL score required for international graduate admission is 79 (Internet-based testing), 213 (computer-based), or 550 (paper-based). Those recommended for admission with scores lower than the minimum must be approved by the Graduate School. Departments/Schools may require a higher score at their discretion. Official scores of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) may also be accepted. A minimum overall band score of 6.5 is needed for consideration. Official scores need to be sent to Illinois State directly from the testing center which administered the test.
