Program Description:
The Master of Arts program in sociology at Idaho State University prepares you for professional employment or pursuit of a Ph.D. in sociology or related fields. We emphasize sociological theory, research methods, and analytical skills. Students work closely with faculty on research and teaching. Our master's degree is geared towards general sociology; however, our faculty represents some specialty areas such as medical sociology, criminology, religion, social psychology, theory, family sociology and environmental sociology. The program requirements consist of 33 credits, comprehensive exams, and the completion of a thesis.

International Requirements:
International students (whose native language is not English) must achieve satisfactory scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). (1) TOEFL Exam: Total score of 80 with a score of at least 20 on each section (2) IELTS Exam: 6.5 or higher on the overall band (3) Level 112 from ELS Language Centers also meets the English language proficiency requirements. Students must contact the Graduate School at graddean@isu.edu before applying for ELS conditional admission in order to verify that the program of interest offers conditional admission.
