Program Description:

The Master of Music Education program was authorized by the Ohio Board of Regents in October 2008 and by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association and the National Association of Schools of Music in November 2008.Building on Heidelberg’s long-standing reputation as a quality music school, the Master of Music Education (MME) program is a community of learning that promotes intellectual, professional and personal development through teaching, service to the discipline and continuing inquiry. Graduates will be experienced, knowledgeable teachers who display the highest values of music making and teaching in their classrooms, ensembles and studios. To meet the needs of practicing teachers, the 30-semester-hour program can be completed in three summers. Courses meet in intensive, two-week blocks; each two-week block offers a three-semester-hour core music education course and a two-semester-hour music content course. This block scheduling allows practicing teachers to complete ten graduate credits in four weeks. MME students may choose from a wide range of electives during the summer sessions; some electives are available during the regular academic year, providing even greater flexibility. Coursework is available to Master’s-degree-seeking teachers as well as to those who require graduate course hours to meet licensure requirements. Workshops are also available for those seeking professional development. Heidelberg’s graduate tuition is competitive with state-sponsored universities, but, unlike state schools, the MME program offers small-class sizes that foster a high-level of student-faculty interaction. Requirements:

Application for the MME Program OFFICIAL transcript(s) sent DIRECTLY from ALL previously attended colleges or universities reflecting: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. Three letters of recommendation from qualified persons addressing the candidate's academic, musical, and teaching qualifications. A copy of the applicant's teaching license or certificate. Applicants will be accepted on a conditional basis until qualifying scores are achieved on the diagnostic examinations in music theory and music history, or review courses are completed.

International Requirements:

World Education Services (WES) evaluation via www.wes.org of international transcripts. The Graduate Studies Office will automatically receive the evaluation once completed. An official copy of English language proficiency test scores from any of the following tests if first language is not English (Please note the institutional code for Heidelberg University is 1292) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – 550 Internet Based TOEFL (iBT) – 79 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – 6.5 Official declaration of financial support.
