Program Description:

Synchrotron radiation science is a new and still growing interdisciplinary field of science. Students are expected to study the basic theory of emission of synchrotron radiation, its characteristics, and interaction of radiation with matter, and then engage in research by using the facilities of the Photon Factory. The research field includes the development of radiation sources, optical elements, and the instruments for diffraction, scattering, spectroscopy and irradiation experiments, as well as the exploration of new areas of applying radiation to science and technology.
