Program Overview
- Program Description:
- Georgia State offers many summer and maymester programs led and taught by Georgia State professors. These programs tend to be focused on a particular topic or theme and range from 10 to 20 participants, though some are larger. Students participate in lectures, site visits, excursions, and tours as part of the program. These programs usually last between two and six weeks. Students find these programs a great way to really get to know their professors and other GSU students while earning GSU credits and grades. Students do not have to study on a program related to their major, but they certainly can. Financial aid and scholarships are available.
Georgia State University's 2012 Summer Study Abroad in Perugia, Italy, offers intermediate and advanced students the opportunity to advance their linguistic competence and deepen their understanding of Italian culture in a full immersion setting while earning six university credits in Italian. Our study of Italian civilization concentrates on Umbria, heart of Italy and cradle of the ancient Etruscan culture, where students will learn and experience Italian culture in home stay and day trips to the towns of Spello, Spoleto, Orvieto, Gubbio, Deruta and Assisi. The program will conclude with two nights in Rome. The program is open to students who have completed second-year Italian (ITAL 2002) with at least a B and exceptionally motivated students who have completed the 1001-1002 sequence.
- Setting Description:
- Student accommodations are double-occupancy rooms rented from resident families in Perugia. The program includes one Italian meal per day on weekdays (usually lunch around 1 p.m.), which plays an integral role in the cultural immersion experience.
