Program Overview

Program Description:
The School of Nursing offers the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program to the existing specialty tracks of the Master of Science in Nursing Program. The FNP Program will be designed to meet the Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies established by The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and prepare students for the Family Nurse Practitioner certification exam offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. The FNP program will build on the existing MSN Program and meet criteria for accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. FNP is a nurse practitioner specializing in general or family care under the supervision of a practicing physician. FNPs are considered primary care providers (PCP) and have the ability to: . Diagnose disease and order a course of treatment, . Manage chronic disease, . Order and evaluate diagnostic tests on patients, . Prescribe medications as needed for treatment, . Order physical therapy and other rehabilitation, . Conduct physical examinations, . Educate patients about healthy behaviors.

Requirements:
1. A Baccalaureate Degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution with a nationally accredited nursing program 2. Current unrestricted licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse 3. GPA of 3.0 on all undergraduate work 4. Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) 5. Transcripts of all previous college studies 6. Three letters of reference 7. 2 years of full time practice (one year = 2040 hours) in acute care over the past 3 years with a Statement of Description of work experience 8. Current, official, satisfactory Criminal Background Check results from the STATE in which you reside AND any other state lived in during the past ten years 9. Immunizations as required by the university
