Program Description:

The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program is designed to train students to become knowledgeable, skillful, ethical counselors able to assist individuals in need of professional counseling services.

Graduates will be prepared to focus on psychological counseling for individuals, couples, families, and groups. In line with our Franciscan mission and in keeping with the most current trends in psychology, Felician College has created a unique approach to preparing professional counselors to place an emphasis on mindfulness, spiritual development, and empowering the potential of others. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be qualified to seek employment as counselors in hospitals, schools, clinics, private group practices, and other settings in the community.

While pursuing your graduate studies at Felician College, you can expect to find a stimulating and nurturing academic environment. The curriculum consists of 66 credits and is designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor in the state of New Jersey. You will delve into such topics as counseling theory, individual and group counseling interventions, testing and assessment, research methods, and professional ethics.

International Requirements:

If you are an international student whose native language is not English, you will be required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score unless you have already taken a standardized test such as the GMAT or GRE. The TOEFL or IELTS requirements will also be waived for any students who has studied in an institution whose primary language of instruction is English for at least one year or earned 24 credits. In lieu of submitting the TOEFL, students may also opt to successfully complete the English as a Second Language program at Felician College. In this case, students will gain conditional admission to Felician College and be able to matriculate into their degree program only after passing an internally administered proficiency test. If your previous institution was outside of the U.S., you will also be required to have a course-by-course credential evaluation completed by a credential evaluation service such as World Education Services (WES) AACRAO, or any member of NACES.
