Program Description:

The Master of Science degree in Instructional Leadership is specifically designed for individuals who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in teaching and wish to pursue graduate work in the area of teacher leadership.  This degree is intended for individuals who teach or lead programs in grades K through 12.  The Instructional Leadership Master’s Degree provides flexibility through electives that may be taken in specific areas to enhance the candidate’s area of concentration.  This is a 35 hour master’s program.

Satisfactory completion of admission requirements, the comprehensive examination (completed in one of the final two semesters), and all course work are required to be eligible for graduation.

Upon completion of the program requirements, the student is responsible for applying for license/licensure by contacting the Licensure Office of Emporia State University. The Licensure Officer then recommends to the Kansas State Department of Education that the student be endorsed in the appropriate area.

The department will recommend a student for license/licensure when all of the requirements for the program have been completed. A grade of B or better must be earned in the practicum course to receive a recommendation.

Other requirements as a part of a program planned by the institution and student to improve administrator effectiveness may be required. Transfer and substitute courses must have prior approval of the department chair and/or program advisor.

Admission Requirements for MS Degree in Instructional Leadership: 1. Undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or better on the last 60 semester hours of work. 2. Submission of official transcripts of all previously completed courses. 3. Submission of three supportive references from supervisors. 4. Satisfactory completion of the Departmental Graded Application Form. 5. Satisfactory completion of the Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test.* 6. Completion and return of the Disposition form. 7. Final determination based on “Graduate Admissions Rating Form” score 8. The applicant must be certified as a teacher/administrator (to perform a professional role in Kansas public schools; *Department faculty have not established a cut/minimum score for either the GRE or MAT, but reserve the right to deny admission to any student who has an aggregate academic background which is not predictive of success in a graduate program.
